A common obstacle to change is the belief that anything less than perfect performance does not count. You plan to walk every morning, miss two days because of rain and fatigue, and suddenly decide the whole effort has failed. That little voice in our heads that says it is the all or nothing trap can sabotage our best efforts to change.
Real change is usually less dramatic. It is built through many small returns. A ten-minute walk still supports the person who wants more energy. One calm conversation still matters to someone trying to improve a strained relationship. Going to bed thirty minutes earlier can be meaningful even when the ideal bedtime is not yet possible.
Stress tends to narrow our thinking into extremes: success or failure, good or bad, now or never. Coherence practices can help settle that pressure and restore a wider perspective. From a steadier emotional state, it becomes easier to ask, “What is the next useful step?” rather than “Did I do this perfectly?”
Progress is not ruined by an imperfect day. Often, the ability to begin again is the skill that makes lasting change possible. You can overcome that limiting belief that it is ‘The All or Nothing Trap‘.
On Thursday, October 15 at 3:00 PM ET, I am offering a free, live one-hour introduction to the Coherence Advantage® program as created and practiced by the HeartMath® Institute.
